Almaty. June 11. Kazakhstan Today - The tragedy in the Gulf of Mexico at the American coast may happen in the Caspian Sea if we do not undertake any oil extraction security measures. If there is an ecological accident at the shelf of Kazakhstan Caspian Sea of a similar scale, its consequences will be much more tragic. Director of Center for Regional Environmental Research of the Atyrau Institute of Oil and Gas, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences, Muftah Diarov, informed in an interview to a weekly journal Caravan.

In case of an accident, the Caspian Sea will turn into a permanent huge source of environmental contamination. The most part of nesting birds of passage, nesting and wintering birds in the Caspian Sea - 10 million - will suffer and some of them - will die."
