About 19.5 thousand HIV-infected registered in Kazakhstan

Almaty. Novamber 1. Kazakhstan Today - about 19.5 thousand HIV-infected are registered by the end of October in Kazakhstan, Kazakhstan Today reports.

"The country has registered 19,475 cases of HIV infection, in Astana - 576, 72% of whom are between the ages of 20 to 39 years," the Center for Prevention and Control of AIDS informed.

As previously reported, in 2005-2006 in South Kazakhstan region, an outbreak of nosocomial HIV infection, in which 133 children were infected, nine children died, one has been taken abroad in connection with adoption, also 17 HIV-positive mothers were identified. According to the officials, the focus has been eliminated in the first half of 2006.

In the case of mass infection of children with HIV 25 people were sentenced. 16 of them got into the prison, but soon many were released. Doctors from Kazygurt district were released by court. Managers of the Department of Health, in particular the former director of the regional health department Nursulu Tasmagambetova suffered no responsibility for the tragedy.

At the same time, the Minister of Health Erbolat Dosaev, Akim of South Kazakhstan Bolat Zhylkyshiev and chairman of the Committee for Quality Control of Medical Services Ministry of Health of Kazakhstan Ualikhan Akhmetov were removed from their posts.
